Bury PCT now live with Lorenzo

NHS Bury has started using the latest version of iSoft's Lorenzo electronic patient record system

The primary care trust went live on 3 November with version 1.9 of Lorenzo Regional Care for referral, caseload management, inpatient and outpatient functions. The trust plans to introduce clinical functionality for orthopaedics and dietetics in the next few months.

Bury was one of the first two areas to introduce Summary Care Records, along with Bolton. It is part of an early adopter programme for Lorenzo, which also includes Morecambe Bay Hospitals, already a user of an earlier version of the software.

On 30 October, the Department of Health said that iSoft would have to have an "agreed milestone plan on track" for implementation at an acute trust by March 2010.

Another sign of progress for the NHS National Programme for IT came with the local service provider for the North, Midlands and East region CSC announcing it has implemented the SystmOne primary care electronic health record system at its 1,000th GP practice, Broadhurst Street in Leicester. CSC said the system is now supporting care for more than 14m people in England.

"We are extremely pleased with the implementation, it has been very effective," said Dr Morjaria of the practice. "The training team have been extremely supportive and have held our hands throughout the process. The system is very quick, people friendly and easy to use."
