Paul Jones, the NHS's chief technology officer, will in future have his main role on the directorate rather than at CfH. It has yet to be confirmed as to whether he will have a formal role at the latter organisation.
Martin Bellamy will remain as head of CfH and the department's director of programmes and systems delivery, but will also be a member of the directorate. The changes will take place on 6 April. Gordon Hextall, the chief operating officer who has worked at CfH since its establishment in 2005, will leave in April.
The changes will see CfH focusing on delivery, while the directorate looks at strategy. "The director general for informatics is building up the core functions required to ensure the development and delivery of an overall informatics strategy for the health and social care system," said a CfH spokesperson.
"The changes at NHS Connecting for Health are about increasing its focus on delivery and accelerating the implementation of National Programme systems."
