Jackie Barker, who is also in charge of professional development, was already on the council of UKChip and has moved onto the board as vacancy opened up.
One of her first duties has been taking part in a workshop to set out a route map for the future of the organisation.
It was set up in 2002 to promote professionalism among health informaticians, and in 2004 launched a voluntary registration scheme. The move indicates the support of Informing Healthcare, the organisation in charge of NHS IT in Wales, for the cause.
It said this should also raise awareness of the Informing Healthcare Health Informatics for Professional Development programme.
