Morecambe Bay live in May, says Cohen

iSoft's chief executive has said his company's Lorenzo software will go live in the next few weeks at its first acute trust

Morecambe Bay

On 1 April, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust said its implementation of Lorenzo Regional Care 1.9, the version of the software intended for trust-wide use, had not gone live by the Department of Health's 31 March deadline. Lorenzo is intended as the National Programme for IT's key suite of software for the North, Midlands and East regions of England.

But later the same day, Gary Cohen told FT.com that "we are very confident that we have a go-live in early May". Although a load test during the last weekend of March had failed, Cohen added that the exercise had provided "much confidence" that Lorenzo "will be able to go live in the next few weeks".

On 6 April, the trust repeated its statement of last week that it is committed to going live with Lorenzo, but would only do so when it is sure it is working properly, and said there is no current date for go-live.

CSC, which is running the implementation work at Morecambe Bay, and iSoft UK were not available for comment. The Department of Health said it is waiting for a new implementation plan from CSC, which it will then evaluate as to whether it is acceptable.
