NHS SBS recruits eight more trusts

Six primary care trusts and two hospital trusts are outsourcing finance, accounting and payroll work worth more than £12m

Bassetlaw Primary Care Trust, NHS Doncaster, NHS Nottingham City, NHS Nottinghamshire County and Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust will move finance, accounting and payroll work to NHS SBS, a joint venture between the Department of Health and Steria.

NHS Brent, NHS Leicester City and Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust, which was created in April through a merger of Royal West Sussex and Worthing and Southlands trusts, will move finance and accounting work only.

The eight join more than 120 trusts already served by NHS SBS, including nine which announced their use of the service in May, making up nearly 30% of all NHS organisations, according to Steria.

NHS Nottinghamshire County, a primary care trust, is currently completing its migration to the service. Helen Pledger, associate director of finance, said: "We need to focus on delivering the best health care for our community and by outsourcing our back office finance, accounting and payroll services to NHS SBS we can concentrate on strategic goals.

"The recent Operating Efficiency Programme recommends shared services as one of the most effective ways to reduce costs and we believe that NHS SBS will support us to achieve our targets in this area," she added.
